Time for Tumblr

May 05 2010 Published by Tyron Bache under Social Media

Yesterday I made myself a Tumblr blog. It took about 5 minutes.

What is Tumblr? A blogging platform.

According to their website:

“Tumblr lets you effortlessly share anything. Post text, photos, quotes, links, music, and videos, from your browser, phone, desktop, email, or wherever you happen to be. You can customize everything, from colors, to your theme’s HTML.”

What makes them stand out and unique? reblogging & they claim to be the easiest way to blog, which I am currently testing out.

What is reblogging?

“The same way YouTube embeds make it easy for a video to become a viral hit, the “reblog” button on all Tumblr posts allows a meme to spread rapidly across thousands of blogs with just a click. “

If you know nothing about blogging and don’t know where to start my suggestion is find a niche you are passionate about and tell us all why you are so passionate about it.

My favourite Tumblr blog right now – Adii Rockstar

My Tumblr Blog – tyronbache.tumblr.com – is very simply for music.. hardcore music. I am passionate about it. I don’t think there are many things on earth that are better than a well written and constructed hardcore song.

So don’t follow my Tumblr if you don’t like or don’t want to learn about the hottest hardcore songs. Find something you are passionate about and either follow an “expert” or become one, the tools are here for you, what are you waiting for?

Link to the video on TED.

  1. This is not about Reddit or Humpback whales it’s about Greenpeace.
  2. Mister Splashy Pants.
  3. The internet loves Mr Splashy Pants.
  4. Greenpeace created an entire marketing campaign around it.
  5. They accomplished their mission.
  6. Out of the interest of doing something cool and not Altruism.
  7. The internet provides a level playing field.
  8. It cost nothing.
  9. Be genuine.
  10. It’s okay to lose control.
  11. You no longer control the message. And that’s OK.

5 reasons to join twitter

Mar 12 2010 Published by Tyron Bache under Social Media

“Twitter is a free service that lets you keep in touch with people through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What’s happening?”

  1. connect: connect with like-minded people and relative businesses and expand your network.
  2. presence: improve your web presence by 140 characters every update.
  3. learn: once you have built up your following list set back and enjoy the stream of knowledge, links and 140 character gems of awesomeness.
  4. promote: promote your brand or business or even yourself, get the word out on your latest news.
  5. share: give remarkable stuff away for free and help others to share what they have to give.

Follow me and I will follow you back if you are remarkable – @TyronBache

How to create something worth sharing

Mar 02 2010 Published by Tyron Bache under Social Media, Web Development

Some points to think about before you create some new content:

  • Remarkable: firstly don’t even think about sharing anything that isn’t remarkable, these days people get bored to easily so your content needs to be something worth making a remark about.
  • Specific: secondly it needs to be specific and focused on a main point, if not your audience might get confused as to what exactly they are sharing and therefore won’t do it.
  • Brief: thirdly we live in a 5 minute world, if something takes more than 5 minutes then you have lost your audience other than a really good movie of course.
  • Community: fourthly how can you expect anything to be shared if there is no one to share it with, it’s as simple as that, as Seth Godin says you need a tribe and there is one waiting for you to lead them, if you can’t find them you aren’t looking hard enough.
  • Tools: fifthly give your auidence the tools to be able to share your content, this should go with out saying but this is where you can rely on twitter and facebook.

Below is the first blog post of one of my favourite bands, The Ranks, watch it and tell me why do you think I am sharing it with you? (P.S. it’s only 54 seconds long.)

facebook, a page

Feb 27 2010 Published by Tyron Bache under Social Media

Last night I created a facebook box that links through to my facebook page for this blog and have already I have a few fans (thanks to everyone who has joined so far – and special thanks to Mike for being my first fan) you can find it in my side bar at the bottom for the moment.

If you would like to know everything about facebook fan boxes you can check out this awesome link from the facebook developers site.

If you own a business or have a brand I strongly recommend starting a facebook page to promote it, not only is it a creative way to connect and engage with your customers – it can be measured, the statistics are awesome! They call them insights and they show you numbers on interactions, likes, comments and interactions.

Below I have embed my fan box, which is another plus, you can put it where ever you want, your blog or website.

tyronbache.com on Facebook

So my challenge to those of you who have a brand and haven’t set up a page for it – go do it now and I will join it. What do you have to lose?

Follow me! I have no idea where I am going.

Feb 21 2010 Published by Tyron Bache under Social Media

Right so you’re asking where to go after a title like that?
Well if you don’t know I am a twitter fan.

I love twitter for the following reason:

  • Connecting and engaging: I don’t think there is any technology that will let you connect and engage with so many people so easily. Yes facebook can but in a different way and I will save that for another day.

One thing I don’t like about twitter is the spam and people who decide to follow everyone and who don’t take the time to engage with the people following them, it looks like they’re just in it for the numbers and to blast out rubbish, twitter becomes useless then and yes the slogan is:

“Share and discover what’s happening right now, anywhere in the world.”

There is no better way to spread some news virally, just go look at the trending topics if you don’t know what I am talking about.

So no I am not going not follow you just because you followed me, especially if you’re tweets are meaningless and from a feed that pops out “news/marketing material”.

I will however follow you if you engage and connect with your followers, if you’re listening and are tweeting stuff worth retweeting and of course interesting to me because guess what I am the most important person on twitter, aren’t we all? Oh and by the way it does look bad even if your tweets are interesting if you have 100 or less followers and you’re following a few thousand.. the word desperate comes to mind #justsaying.

If you want you can follow me but I won’t guarantee I will follow you back and I hope you respect that.
