A Conversation with Sean Parker

Oct 19 2011 Published by Tyron Bache under Business, Social Media, Video

A very insightful half an hour interview with Sean Parker, talking about Spotify, Facebook and not talking about Airtime at the Web 2.0 Summit 2011.

“Online, the best content floats to the top… because we want to look good to our friends.”

~ Sean Parker (paraphrased)

Probably the best Twitter advice I have heard

Jun 08 2011 Published by Tyron Bache under Quotes, Social Media

So that is quite a title so I guess I really need to step up and deliver something special. Earlier in the year I shared some Twitter advice for Entrepreneurs on Ideate from my own limited experience but this one point I am going to share with you is better than all 5 I shared.

I can’t claim this as my as mine, I really wish it was though, it’s so simple and when training people on how to use Twitter effectively I am probably going to start with this quote by David Perel from a GQ article.

Here’s my theory, if you can’t stand on a chair in front of 1000+ people, and shout out loud what you going to tweet, then don’t tweet it.

Nobody, if only very few, people want to see tweets like the following:

Party tweets like “Omg myself and @ @ @ @ @ are having so much fun at this exclusive party”… Get over yourselves. When people tweet when they are sick…

Now David does know what he is talking about, he has been on Twitter since 2008 and has close to 6000 followers. It’s simple really, next time you are about to tweet imagine you’re at an event with 1000 close family, friends and people whom you admire and think to yourself would they appreciate what I have to say and if not then maybe you shouldn’t say it. I am probably guilty of not doing this myself so this is a challenge to us all to make Twitter a fantastic part of our days rather than reading about someone’s latest party, sickness or blog post.

A conversation with Jason Fried

Jun 01 2011 Published by Tyron Bache under Quotes, Social Media

One of the reasons I love Twitter is because you can connect with people and I did just that, I connected with one of my heroes, Jason Fried.

If you don’t know who Jason Fried is try Googling him. So how did the conversation begin you might ask? Well Jason tweeted about his latest Inc. Magazine article, Don’t Exaggerate Your Size, which I read rather quickly and could relate to as I am currently running a one man company of my own, Smashing Web Development. I then paused and thought that I had never seen Jason publish content via a personal website or blog and wondered why. I then headed over to Google to go and see if I could find such a place, a personal haven for Jason online, but I couldn’t.

I found this Friedisms, a parody, and asked him if it was his or if he had a website or blog. He tweeted back and said it wasn’t his but he wish they kept it up though. The posts there ran dry about a year ago.

I then stumbled across jasonfried.com and I thought this was it but it wasn’t to be as Jason quickly replied and said that he didn’t own it.

I then pestered him with one last question, which was if he had a specific reason he didn’t have a personal website and threw in some flattery to sweeten the tweet. In true Jason Fried style he answered brilliantly; he doesn’t have anything more to say on a personal site that he doesn’t say elsewhere.

I didn’t want to drag it out any longer as I had lots to do so I agreed with and thanked Jason for answering all of my questions. Finally he was even kind enough to reply to that.

So, in summary, why doesn’t Jason Fried have a personal website?
Because he doesn’t need one, he says all he needs to say exactly where it needs to be said.

For your reference, some of Jason’s web presence:

I would love to find the best content that Jason has produced online, please feel free to add and describe relevant links in the comments.

Don't Read This

Jul 06 2010 Published by Tyron Bache under Social Media

So I’m quite proud, after a little bit of convincing my girlfriend has created a blog, Don’t Read This.

I am looking forward to where this goes, she already has four posts up, which is pretty impressive! A little bit about her in her own words, “I love watching people around me, that’s where I gain my inspiration – it’s my favourite. Also, boots & nail polish!” This one is definitely for all the girls out there. She has also taken to twitter and you can follow her @MeganWridgway.

A view into the Forrst

Jun 09 2010 Published by Tyron Bache under Social Media, Web Development

Right so how many of you have heard about Kyle Bragger‘s Forrst? Raise your hands please…

Okay, a few of you have, thanks you can lower you hands now.

Forrst is a place for designers and developers to share screenshots, links, code, and questions with their peers. I do however love the way that Carsonified have described it: Where Designers Who Code meet Developers Who Design.

Forrst is still in beta and is invite-only which when I first stumbled upon it made me a little curious, I applied and got accepted today, stoked, I think I am #2,483. If you have an account you can view my profile here.

My first impressions, I must say I am a little bias because I did get accepted… anyway I love the home page, it has been beautifully done and the moving clouds in the background are a lovely touch. When I first heard about it I thought it was just a Dribbble copy but I am still waiting for my Dribbble invite so that I can’t make an informed judgement on that… yet and I am not sure who cam first. Once logged in the UI is awesome, good to look at and pretty easy to use, they have made sharing effortless. One thing I can say is that Forrst accepts developers and not just designers which I am happy about being a developer. There is tons of content flying around in the forrst and I am keen to get stuck in and find some real gems which obviously I will share with you guys.

Time for Tumblr

May 05 2010 Published by Tyron Bache under Social Media

Yesterday I made myself a Tumblr blog. It took about 5 minutes.

What is Tumblr? A blogging platform.

According to their website:

“Tumblr lets you effortlessly share anything. Post text, photos, quotes, links, music, and videos, from your browser, phone, desktop, email, or wherever you happen to be. You can customize everything, from colors, to your theme’s HTML.”

What makes them stand out and unique? reblogging & they claim to be the easiest way to blog, which I am currently testing out.

What is reblogging?

“The same way YouTube embeds make it easy for a video to become a viral hit, the “reblog” button on all Tumblr posts allows a meme to spread rapidly across thousands of blogs with just a click. “

If you know nothing about blogging and don’t know where to start my suggestion is find a niche you are passionate about and tell us all why you are so passionate about it.

My favourite Tumblr blog right now – Adii Rockstar

My Tumblr Blog – tyronbache.tumblr.com – is very simply for music.. hardcore music. I am passionate about it. I don’t think there are many things on earth that are better than a well written and constructed hardcore song.

So don’t follow my Tumblr if you don’t like or don’t want to learn about the hottest hardcore songs. Find something you are passionate about and either follow an “expert” or become one, the tools are here for you, what are you waiting for?
