I was inspired by the short but awesome chapter entitled, “Be a starter”, from the brilliant 37 Signals book Rework.
I am a 23 year old web developer, blogger, I do what I love and I own property. I believe that I am a part of a new generation of young people who believe in themselves. It’s 2011 I can do anything I want, I can become who I choose to be.
To steal a line from an awesome poem:
“I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.”
And you know what you can be to! You don’t need to go to varsity (I didn’t), you don’t need a MBA (waste of time unless you like following the herd) or lots of money (but that helps, I have enough to get by).
“You just need an idea, a touch of confidence, and a push to get started.”
Rework, page 28
So what are you waiting for? Get out there and start something!
If you are young and have got something really cool started please show me, I’d love to feature you on my blog but if you have an idea and haven’t started it then don’t read anything else until you have.

I love this thinking and do believe that the more people start thinking like “starters” the more we’ll see the world’s problems solved in unique & awesome ways!
Thanks so much I really appreciate your feedback man! You just made my day, haven’t felt this good since Gary Vaynerchuk mentioned me on twitter
Really inspiring dude. Needed to hear something like this. Thanks
and much power to you
Shot Luke, glad it’s what you needed!
Nice enthusiasm Tyron! It’s awesome to have a job that you love.
Thanks Lauren, I hope you do what you love.
i wish i was as young as you (or even younger) when i made the decisions that shaped most of my life! i was old school, get an education, work hard and you’ll get that promotion, the better the degree of knowledge (pardon the pun) you have the better your chances to succeed….what a load of crap!
i was a straight A student, top of my class…most of the time! It was kinda expected of me to obtain a degree (as a matter of course) and become some or other professional. Guess what……It didn’t happen! I struggled in more ways than one in my first year…Science…had a change of heart and switched to theology the next year; completed technical studies the following year and ended up as an appy (electrical)…the next year! Most people who know me would say it was way beyond my calling..haha…i enjoyed it! Embarked on computer studies next..didn’t finish…studied paint technology of all things..didn’t finish, and so the story goes,, i get bored very easily….but i enjoy everything i do and did!
Today, i’m in the nuclear field and a manager at a top utility….and had only my matric, experience and lots of guts to get there…no diplomas, degrees or knowing the right people!
I guess what i’m trying to say is: it’s good to have youngsters like yourself making good and being an example to others out there…education and a wealthy family is not the secret to success! Listen to and convince yourself first of want you want in life…the rest is easy!
I’ve a permanent full time job (that i enjoy tremendously), but i can leave tomorrow if i had to , because i believe in myself. My other online activities, are merely hobbies with a financial bonus: see for yourself at http://www.vendgalaxy.blogspot.com
You’ve got somethiong good going here Tyron…keep it up!!!!!
Thanks so much for your comment and sharing you story
