Getting Airborne

Jan 18 2012

So by now some of you are probably a little sick of me mentioning Airborne on Twitter and Facebook. However that’s what happens when you catch a virus and get sick (not sick as in “oh no I feel terrible…” rather “dude you have check out how sick this is!”). But if I could some up my feelings for Airborne in less than 140 characters it would be the tweet below.

If you haven’t seen it yet here is a brief video introduction to the spirit and principles of Airborne.

So for those of you who are interested and are similar to me (and the Tumblr man below)

Then this is your chance to get Airborne :) all you need to do visit http://get.airbornemusic.com/ and sign up. They will need all your usual “Sign Up” info. Once you’re signed up I bet you’re going to be all like so… where are all of the artists and bands. You can find them here http://discover.airbornemusic.com/.

Now because I am such a nice guy and the Airborne Crew is awesome I have an special edition $3 voucher to give away to get you up and carrying a band on the network. Check it out below. To be able to redeem this voucher here are the steps you need to follow:

  1. Do this as quick as possible as others might beat you to it.
  2. Login and click on your profile pic on the top left of your screen to “Update your Airborne Profile”.
  3. Then scroll down and select “ACCOUNT TOP-UP”.
  4. Then scroll down to the “VOUCHER” area.
  5. Then enter the code exactly as you see it on the voucher below.
  6. Be stoked you have $3 to carry some cool bands.

TIA (This is Africa) – Pigeons for breakfast

Dec 02 2011

Video Link

A couple guys are trying to catch some pigeons for breakfast at 8:30 AM on a busy sidewalk next to a busy road. From what I can make out the main guy lured the pigeons in with seeds and then was planning on throwing a container over them… but every time the birds were close enough something scared the pigeons away, either someone walking past or vehicle. Don’t worry no pigeons were harmed during the filming of this. The track being played is Valerna – Combination Pizza Hut & Taco Bell.

On success

Nov 24 2011

“You need a lot of passion for what you’re doing because it’s so hard. Without passion, any rational person would give up. So if youre not having fun doing it, if you dont absolutely love it, youre going to give up. And thats what happens to most people, actually. If you look at the ones that ended up being successful in the eyes of society, often times its the ones who love what they do, so they could persevere when it got really tough. And the ones that didnt love it, quit. Because theyre sane, right? Who would put up with this stuff if you dont love it? So its a lot of hard work and its a lot of worrying constantly. If you dont love it, youre going to fail.” – Steve Jobs

How to win in the service industry

Jul 19 2011

Let me just clarify the industry that I am currently in.
I am a web developer, I develop websites for my company Smashing Web Development. I can say without a doubt that I run a service business. Yes I code and build websites, edit CSS and create lines and lines of HTML but at the end of the day my business sinks and floats on how well I serve my clients.

So if you are starting out in the “service” industry (any industry in which you deal with clients) here is some advice to make sure you win.

Answer every email briefly, positively and honestly. No one likes to read a negative email, heck, very few people like to read email at all so keep it short. People may not remember what you said on the phone or in a meeting but they can always go back and check an email. Don’t lie.

Under promise and over deliver. Easy to say but hard do. When trying to win a client I know you try and put your best foot forward and you tell them all of the lovely things you can do for them but don’t promise them the world and then give them the moon. No one can eat that much cheese.

So now you know. Go on, go be awesome.
